Rob La Frenais
Rob La Frenais has been a curator and writer since 1979. Before that he made early video art and performance in the ‘70s. He founded Performance Magazine in 1979, which continues as Performance Magazine Live on social media. His other social media projects are Future of Transportation and Wild Rowing. Between 1997 and 2014 he was the curator of The Arts Catalyst, the science and art organisation. Since 2014 he has independently curated the exhibitions No Such Thing As Gravity for FACT, UK and National Taiwan Musuem of Fine Art, Exoplanet Lot, for the Maison Georges Pompidou, Cajarc, France, Continuum for Allenheads Contemporary Arts, Northumberland, and the recent (pre-COVID crisis) talks series. Art After the Collapse for Dartington Arts School, UK. He has edited a monograph on the performance work of performance artist Anne Bean for Intellect Books, Self Etc, with whom he is developing a number of future performances. He recently was a HIAP curatorial resident and fellow at the Saari Residence, Finland. He writes regularly for Art Monthly UK and makery.info in France. His recent essay - Slow Travel - A Privilege Not A Sacrifice, was published by the Kone Foundation in March 2020. He lives in France but is currently stuck in London with the lockdown.
