After the preparatory workshop, we aim to join forces to collectively mourn the landscapes being lost due to data center construction and explore ways to fight these thirsty data vampires and how to get rid of the Big Tech demons. We will actively engage with the construction site of the first Google data center in Austria, located in Kronstorf, to develop different forms of grieving and how to prevent future losses.
We want to use spell-casting, demon-hunting strategies, vampire remedies, protest songs, pagan rituals, and zines to accompany us on the field-trip "Grieving a Landscape" on Sunday, but also beyond. Hopefully, this workshop can act as a space to collect strategies, thoughts, and wisdom to reassert power and gain back sovereignty over our data and technology.
Christina Gruber's artwork Vaping vampire is on view in the exhibition "From the Ashes of the Burnout Machines" at Galerie MAERZ and in conversation, Morning session: How to boil a data center?.
