Damage Such
Damage Such is a live coding collaboration between Lina Bautista (ES) and Timo Hoogland (NL). They use the programming language Mercury to create electronic music live with the collaborative web-editor named Flok. They improvise remotely and in real-life, building a performance where they both write in the same source code. This requires them to pay attention to what the other is doing before evaluating the code. The music they program finds its influence in a combination of the performers backgrounds: a wide range of genres such as techno, electronica, acid, idm, edm and drum'n'bass but also post-rock, math rock and metal.
The Mercury programming environment is an open source live coding language developed by Timo. The language has been designed around making code more accessible and less obfuscating for the coder-performer as well as the audience. This is an attempt to make live coding performances even more open and inclusive for audience members that don't have programming experience. Flok (https://flok.cc) is an open source collaborative coding editor developed by Damián Silvani (AR) that runs in the browser. In the editor the user can create multiple panes for different languages they would like to use. Other users can join by accessing the same url.
