Do you ever find yourself missing your old family computer? Was there ever a moment dedicated to remember and reminisce what it brought to your life? What does it mean to be dead digitally? Where does the life of a device start and how could we bring them back?
Through this workshop we will try to understand how can discarding of old tech look for us. We will research possibilities of further life and be inspired by those that were once discarded. Dedicating time and research into old tech/concepts/understandings we will try to transform our properties into belongings, create bridges. 'Resurrection' will be our tool to reflect and bring back valuables we have abandoned for one reason or another. Inspired by Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, resurrection will draw the path to inner reflections of our repair routines. In this workshop we use it to revive digital concepts/devices/techniques/platforms we think to be dead or obsolete. This is a crucial first step to initiate a curious spark to learn more about our own mysterious devices. We will start by discussing what do we consider dead regarding tech, digitals, digital media/ums. After a short discussion we split into groups of similar understandings of death or dead object and create performances of eulogies for them. The eulogy could be anything from a short poem, a presentation with pictures, a choir reading the eulogy together or a moment of silence. We will hear out every participant and have a moment afterwards to see what we find interesting about each others presentations. The dress code for this workshop is: FUNERAL.
