At http://vektordb.lafkon.net you can browse and download a collection of vector-based1 images. The database first was intended as an online storage facility for personal use, but also allowed use by third-party persons. During the years the archive got recognized by a bigger audience and a redesign became necessary. This redesign process led to a broader approach towards a Free/Libre/Open Source Software inspired graphics repository. The talk summarizes experiences made.

Digital technology is disrupting the world of entertainment as well as art. We will take a look at the impact of digitalization on filmmaking, film distribution and theatres, especially from a European and independent film perspective. Technical, economic as well as cultural aspects will be discussed. Special attention will be dedicated to the latest version of the Digital Cinema Initiative's (DCI) System Standard, an attempt by Hollywood majors to introduce a common specification for digital film.

An entertaining view on a total crazy part of our society.

Maybe you never thought about what free software has to do with democracy. Maybe you wonder, what the fuss is all about. My first idea was just to tell you about what happens right now and, if you are an artist who has to do anything with computers, how your rights are already taken away from you. I'd tell you about a revolution not only against your purse, but against your democratic rights that creeps out of dusty office rooms.
