In the last few years computer games tend to excelling mostly by superior graphics, instead of interesting story or innovative game play features. Because of this, games often fail to be fun anymore. But this is a change that occurred in the past two decades. Today we know that high-end graphics do not always mean high-end fun, often it is the very opposite. Old games are often more fun to play, because of their simplicity and the story they tell. But quite a lot of these long forgotten treasures are not even known by today’s players anymore.

Multichannel sound projection/installation of composition for 6 prerecorded Flutes (bass x2, C x2 and piccolo x2) + live electronics composed and notatated using FLOSS tools (pure-data, perl, lilypond) a copy of the music score (10m long A3 scroll) will also be projected as a scrolling png → video.

Participants will take part in building a Pufi from scratch. Doing so they get familiar with Arduino microcontrolers, light- and other sensors, mini-radio modems, usb audio devices and some other hardware, that provides to the pufis their sensors and media to communicate one with teh others and as well to communicate with us. Additionally the participants will learn how to programm the Arduino hardware and cutting and creating sounds with audacity.

In the workshop, we will go through some possibilities to do live video processing with FLOSS software. We'll mainly handle some low-level libraries to acquire (gstreamer, dc1394, v4l) and output (opengl, sdl, xv) raw video signals, issues of color coding and some simple analysis loops. If time permits, we'll try to tap into the power of Intel's OpenCV to do more complex analysis.

After Building (23.04.09) MiMOSA, Kruno and Ricardo will go out together with the workshop participants and start public interventions in the urban space.

Digital technology is disrupting the world of entertainment as well as art. We will take a look at the impact of digitalization on filmmaking, film distribution and theatres, especially from a European and independent film perspective. Technical, economic as well as cultural aspects will be discussed. Special attention will be dedicated to the latest version of the Digital Cinema Initiative's (DCI) System Standard, an attempt by Hollywood majors to introduce a common specification for digital film.

G.I.S.S. ( Global Independent Streaming Support ) is an international network of free media activists, working in building an open infrastructure for free media collectives, intenting to cover all problematics of free independent media with GPL tools, from the storage of contents, its programming and its broadcasting.

More concretely, right now, the G.I.S.S. is an infrastructure with different components and tools for setting up an independent radio or video channel easily.
