The foyer of the Kunstuniversität is an open space for meetings, having a drink, watching videos. sharing interests or making small informal presentations, workshops. In the hole area free wlan access is available.

At Infopoint you will find some books and you can buy the puredyne-stick.

PD/GEM
GEM stands for Graphics Environment for Multimedia and is an external (plugin) for the computer-music software Pure Data (PD)

GEM is now maintained at the IEM by IOhannes m zmölnig. Future developments will be aimed at Linux, OS-X and Win32 platforms.

GEM is open source software, it is free for any use and can be downloaded from the internet. GEM runs on LINUX, OSX, Win32 and IRIX platforms.

GEM follows the programming paradigm of PD.

We will have about 8 PC-stations running with PD/Gem.

Workshop

Day 1
participants are asked to bring image material and experiment with simple bash/python code that we bring along in order to have an easy experimental introduction to generative image manipulation. We are going to share prepared basic linux/python code that we prepared for the participants to do some image processing.

This is a hands-on session on different licenses (Gnu General Public License, GPL, Create Commons etc). If participants have questions along their own projects this is a possibility to work that out.

18:00 - 18:45

The remix is the cultural form of the network society. Felix Stalder sketches some of the technological, political, legal, and cultural dynamics that shape the rise and the current development of the remix. The conflicts produced by this development highlight the depth of the current social change and the central role of artists and creative producers.

19:30 - 21:30

This panel aims at starting a discussion on Free, Libre and Open Source Software (FLOSS) from the point of view of labour. While some universities and private R&D labs of companies support FLOSS, a lot of work on code is carried out by individuals and groups of developers
