Program 2010

04-17

00:00 - 24:00

OpenArtist is a linux distribution for creative people. It focuses on and features all flavours of digital arts : 2d, 3d, audio, video, vjing, hardware interfacing (arduino, robotics, reactable..). OpenArtist is an ubuntu-based distribution which tries to be more recent and way more useful than e.g ubuntuStudio. It features many programs which are not available in other distributions. The one thing which sets openArtist apart from other distributions is its universal approach.

Presentation

Code becomes a sub-title for multiple questions of visibility within the world (paranoia, and conspiracy). Code is less than visible within contemporary networked systems, extending spider-like from interface to embrace the world; a vanishing point in all senses. At the same time, code references a secret use of language, as encryption. The presentation examines the impact of necessary [in]-visibility on the study of software, and on experimental practices informed by both the free software and open hardware movements, exploring topics including

GENERATECH is an initiative of Investigation – action born in 2007 that promotes agency of gender in the audio-visual tecnoculture trought free software making workshops, lectures, festivals, videos and performances. It is a question of creating spaces of coordination and collaboration between associations, collectives, institutions and persons to extend and to defend the free traffic of knowledges, experiences, skills and technologies, in the field of the reflection and critical action of the relations of gender at present. Objectives:

This project will use mobile devices based on open source code (Android) as well as GPS technologies (which provides the position of users) and 3D audio contents (binaural and ambisonics).

A „HowTo/Proof-of-concept“ about band-related tasks, using only free software and GNU/Linux. This includes: Recording/mastering audio, graphics/printing, website, content-licensing. Focus would be on handling audio and graphics.

[img_assist|nid=1051|title=|desc=|link=node|align=left|width=250|height=188] At our workshop will combine simple linux programming with the of making a fanzine.

Day 1
participants are asked to bring image material and experiment with simple bash/python code that we bring along in order to have an easy experimental introduction to generative image manipulation. We are going to share prepared basic linux/python code that we prepared for the participants to do some image processing.

Day 2

11:00 – 16:00

This workshop will provide an introduction to the general philosophy and history of the Open Frameworks C++ programming environment which has been designed similar to the popular Processing environment for the simplified creation of interactive installations and artworks. OF is an open source project led by Zach Lieberman, Theo Watson and Arturo Castro and is also driven by a growing community of artists and designers who are regularly contributing the usable results of their own works back into the general framework.

13:00 – 17:00

based on the radio once distributed by piradio.de, this workshop consists of building your own usb powered radio to broadcast directly from your laptop! no soldering experience. in a few hours the boards will be stuffed and you will be able to start tuning and broadcasting!

Material Costs: 10 Euros per Person

Break

19:00 – 19:40

21:00 – 21:30

livecoding performance (20-25 minutes), no sampling, generative music, oscillators, filters, feedback, noise

21:00 – 21:25

"do sinusoids dream of electric sweeps" is a live-coding performance done in pure-data. it relies heavily on self-modifying Pd-patches that interact in an agent-like fashion.

* move around
* find out about other agents in their neighbourhood
* connect to their neighbours
* exchange data with their neighbours

the human has to do the chores:

* create new agents
* tell agents to make good music by writing their generative code
* tell agents to behave properly by changing their interaction code

22:00 – 22:25
